Detroit

Kathryn Bigelow’s “Detroit” is a gut wrenching powerhouse that will shake you to your core. I feel it is the best film from her recent entries and is very competently made. The way it is directed and put together makes it a tension filled movie that is very difficult to watch in places. The events portrayed in the story are horrifying and it is disgusting that anything like this actually took place. Racism is a quality that I truly have a strong hatred for and the ending of this movie really made my blood boil. The performances also enhance the movie and make it feel grounded in reality. You really do feel empathy for the victims of the situation and hatred towards the police officers. I did appreciate that the conflict wasn’t so one dimensional since they do portray some police officers and good people but the movie manages to make its point. The film might come off as a bit too long for some, but I personally found every moment of it be absorbingly compelling. It is one of 2017’s finest films and experiencing it shouldn’t be missed, even if it is a tough film to take in.
