“Pokémon Detective Pikachu” is lighthearted fun that Pokémon fans of all ages can enjoy together. In terms of the Pokémon franchise, I’ve definitely enjoyed many aspects of it in my childhood and seeing a new take on this idea was definitely interesting. The best part of this movie is Ryan Reynolds as the voice of Pikachu. He’s very funny and every second his character is on screen, the movie is a pure joy to watch. I honestly think this movie could have been so much worse had some other less impressive voice actor had been cast. The story is pretty solid and it does present an engaging mystery element, but it does run into some pacing issues here and there. Nonetheless, the movie leads up to an action-packed finale and has plenty of humor and references that will keep fans engaged throughout. If you were a Pokémon fan at any point in your life, whether it was the show, the trading cards, the games, or movies, this movie will bring a smile to your face, and if you weren’t, you probably won’t be seeing the movie anyway.
